The Star Signs
Astrology Star Sign - ARIES
Fire sign, cardinal.
This is one of the easiest signs to recognise,
being what you see is what you get, with very obvious characteristics
that include impulsiveness and eagerness. They tend to be headstrong
and tactless - act first and think later, which can go against
them as they endlessly pursue their chosen goals, thriving on
challenge. Whether however they reach their goals is debatable!
Energy and enthusiasm go hand in hand with this placement but
they can be selfish and impatient.
They usually have strong leadership qualities and
are quite independent minded, often so in relationships, where
they are generally passionate although this will largely depend
on their Venus and Mars signs also. When crossed or facing an
obstacle, all hell can break loose, either physically or verbally.
They really are a fire sign and the word 'me' was written for
them!
Astrology Star Sign - TAURUS
Earth sign, fixed.
In many ways Taureans typify an earth sign;
being very down to earth, sensual, and nature-loving people. They
love stability and security, whence they will show great reliability.
They are practical, methodical, dependable, preferring routine
and resist change more so than other signs but nevertheless cope
better than most when getting down to enforced changes. They tend
to be slow and resolute in their progress, but usually achieving
their wants.
They are very often jealous and possessive by nature but
if this can be overcome make very loving, loyal partners. As well
as relationships, Taurus much appreciates other forms of harmonious
surroundings in view of it being ruled by Venus, the planet of
love and beauty. This may well be arts and crafts, music, or gardening
for example. And they tend to love the good things in life, especially
food and drink. The materialistic side to them relates more to
the accumulation of things than simply having the best - as long
as it is of good quality. They are great collectors.
Astrology Star Sign - GEMINI
Air sign, mutable.
One of the hardest signs to really understand,
probably because of it's marked duality, in whatever way that
manifests. Change and variety is all important to a Gemini. Communication
is the key here, being ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication.
And typical Geminis certainly talk - non-stop sometimes. If they
don't talk much, there will be other evidence of their sign: maybe
rooms full of books and magazines, endlessly watching television(s),
constantly e-mailing people, and so on. Like Sagittarians, they
are great learners, simply wanting to know everything about everything,
and often more than one thing at once. They are incredibly versatile,
and the more plodding listener would have trouble keeping up with
the subject changes of an eloquent Gemini. And all this communication
means they are rarely short of lots of friends - very typical
of air signs in general.
They tend to be very impressionable which can very much
work to their disadvantage, as can their renowned sudden moodiness
- very obvious when Moon is in Gemini.
With the lessened exception of Libra, air signs are not
renowned for their romantic affections, and one needs to find
a Gemini with more passionate signs abounding within the other
planets, especially Moon, Mars, and Venus, if a passionate and
romantic relationship is sought after!
Astrology Star Sign - CANCER
Water sign, cardinal.
One of the most sensitive, moody, and temperamental
of all the signs. Obviously this is either further enhanced or
lessened by the placing of the other planets, etc. They possess
a strong nurturing instinct and home is the key word here - even
a wide travelling Cancerian will always have a very strong homing
instinct and need to feel the domestic lure and security that
only home can give. Even more so than Taureans, Cancers love collecting
things as they go through life - things that will remind them
later of their past. They love dwelling in the past. They worry
a lot, but usually it is over domestic matters, unlike Virgos
who worry about everything. A chief characteristic of the emotional
water signs is intuition, which can be markedly pronounced in
them, many becoming clairvoyants. Cancers in particular 'feel'
their way through life.
It as if Cancers are protected by an outer shell, like
the crab that portrays their sign, and many people find it difficult
to penetrate this defence to find the true person within. However,
they are renowned for a soft, caring nature which is why they
love home building and forming deep lasting relationships so much.
They do tend to be very touchy though, and the fire signs in particular
find them extremely difficult to deal with. The other thing that
they have in common with the crab is that of addressing matters
from a 'sideways' approach rather than head on, as a fire sign
would.
Astrology Star Sign - LEO
Fire sign, fixed.
Very much a sign associated with being in
charge of situations. Very much a leadership quality, being ambitious
and very proud, and can all too easily become overbearing and
arrogant if not checked. They are usually creative in varying
ways, acting being perhaps the most openly obvious show of this.
As with Aries (and Sagittarius), Leos can be very forthright,
sometimes too much so. They share certain attributes with the
earth sign Taurus in as much that often only the best will do:
I know of some people who have Sun in one of these signs and Moon
in the other, and they are very materialistic people indeed. Leos
are however often generous but this can simply be to remain the
centre of attention - nine times out of ten they already are that.
They thrive on attention, recognition, and praise
from others, so therefore run the risk of becoming conceited.
At the very least they are big-hearted, romantic people.
Astrology Star Sign - VIRGO
Earth sign, mutable.
I know Virgos who are constant worriers,
so much so that they worry alarmingly about unlikely situations
when there is no sign that the situation is set to occur.
Virgos are extremely analytical, counting every last detail and
crossing the Ts and dotting every I. Lists come second nature
to these people. Precision is shown in everything they do - and
think. Unless the rest of the chart says otherwise, Virgos are
conservative by nature and tend to happily remain in the background,
observing rather than taking part.
They often become obsessed with their health and fitness, sometimes
leading to hypochondria. And their exact neatness and tidiness
can become the total opposite - to almost tramp-like proportions
- if they have strong negative aspects in their chart.
Like the water sign Pisces, they are at their best when serving
others in some way, rather than taking the initiative. They can
be very hard on themselves in their constant quest for perfection
in everything they do. And they do need to watch that criticism!
Astrology Star Sign - LIBRA
Air sign, cardinal.
As depicted by the sign of the scales, Librans
are always trying to find the correct balance in life and within
situations and relationships. Unlike the other air signs, they
generally really need to be in a satisfying relationship, yet
unless other planets fall in flamboyant signs, there will still
be that airy, intellectual aura to the relationship as opposed
to a fiery, passionate one. Undoubtedly the most diplomatic of
all the signs, they love harmony and therefore make great mediators
in times of crisis and arguments. They do however often sit on
the fence, not taking either side, and are infamous for not being
able to make decisions, especially if Mercury is also in Libra.
They like things to be quiet, fair, and easygoing
and give the impression of being a walkover, but are harder to
crack than it would at first appear, probably because of their
air sign quality of not being governed by emotion but by logic.
Theoretically at least, a partnership offering the tact and diplomacy
of a Libran and the impulsiveness of a strong-willed Arian could
be the perfect compromise! And whereas with Aries, the pronoun
is I, with Libra it is we.
Astrology Star Sign - SCORPIO
Water sign, fixed.
Depending on your own individual chart, these people
can be the most difficult to truly get along with, for Scorpios
possess a mixture of traits that make them extremely complex beings.
And because Scorpio is ruled by the most malevolent of the planets
- Pluto - it shares some of the darker sides of life. Perhaps
this is why some astrologers describe Scorpio as being the most
powerful of all the signs, for Pluto is all about power. Other
Pluto/Scorpio traits include secrecy, jealousy and possessiveness,
sex and passion, being unforgiving, intensity and obsession. All
this probably paints a rather gloomy picture of Scorpios, which
is certainly not the case in general, it is just that many of
these darker issues can lie lurking beneath the surface of an
otherwise friendly, outgoing Scorpio - the sting in the tail.
The power side to all this may simply show itself in a
fixed stubbornness that will not budge to adapt in situations.
On the other hand, many Scorpios use the inherent power capabilities
to get to the top in their respective fields. Where they can fall
down however is, being a water sign, emotions often rule rather
than logic. They can employ great charm but also can be hard and
demanding when it suits them.
The subject they are most famous for is passion. I must
say, that although this aspect is inherent in their make up, it
does depend on their Mars and Venus placements to a large extent
as to how passionate they will be, and whether they live up to
this astrological myth.
Pluto transforms things, bringing new from old, and this
is reflected by Scorpios often experiencing life in definite chapters,
situations and people ever-changing. They are very curious and
have an innate talent of getting to the bottom of things.
Astrology Star Sign - SAGITTARIUS
Fire sign, mutable.
The least showy of the three fire signs but
nevertheless just as outgoing, frank, and eager as the others.
Whereas a Leo will tend to push himself forward in a gathering
to be the centre of attention, (and the Aries has already been
and gone!) the Sagittarian will coolly wait for the best moment
and often receive the best reaction by doing so. By fire sign
standards they are rather sensitive folk and can feel emotions
almost as if they were a water sign.
The learning and pursuit of worldly knowledge is very much
their quest in life. They are more adaptable and flexible than
the other two fire signs and by nature very honest. But the biggest
key word to describe them is optimistic - ever seeing the bigger
picture.
Travel is second nature to a Sagittarian, even if it is
only in the mind. They share a high degree of independence and
freedom with the air sign Aquarius, for which reason these two
signs often gel well. Sagittarians are at their best when their
mind and body have the freedom to explore things as they would
like.
In relationships, Sagittarians often prefer the thrill
of the chase to the actual conquest, and are generally very hot
blooded, especially if Scorpio figures highly in their chart.
They are the most likely of the three fire signs to put
their foot in it, dig a hole and never know when to stop digging!
Astrology Star Sign - CAPRICORN
Earth sign, cardinal.
Very serious in outlook, shy and retiring
and often loners. Yet they are strong- willed, determined people
and many a Capricorn has gone on to great things (especially if
Mars is also in Capricorn) thanks to their dogged determination.
They have a reputation for being openly mean and selfish, but
this is only in extreme cases. They do tend to be somewhat cold
or even hard natured people - this is very evident if their Moon
is in Capricorn, but of course the rest of the chart needs taking
into consideration.
It is the sign that also has the reputation of being the
most boring, but they do however often have a highly developed
dry sense of humour. Unless countered by more favourable signs
in their chart, they can appear old before their time.
The Capricorn impatience is almost unique to their sign, certainly
not the typical impulsive Aries type impatience. It drives them
along in a responsible, pondering sort of way that often leads
to setbacks because they did not wait for the right moment. Like
Taureans, they resist change, respecting the tried and tested
methods of doing things. And the word conventional was written
for them.
Astrology Star Sign - AQUARIUS
Air sign, fixed.
To many people, myself included, this is the most
interesting of all the signs. The reason is because these people
are not sheep: they do
their own thing, in their own way, etc, etc. They are unconventional
and in pronounced cases, their way is unusual, quirky, or downright
eccentric. They will not conform to imposed restrictions or trends.
They indulge in their own freedom and independence, even more
so than Sagittarians, but remaining very friendly and gregarious
in the process. The other strong Aquarian trait is that of humanitarian
beliefs. They think for the group, or for society itself, rather
than for themselves.
They find technology comes second nature, and are often
original thinkers with scientific minds. They can though be fixed
in their viewpoints and not very adaptable, which can cause problems
for them being as their views can be seen as downright odd!
Another infamous trait of Aquarians is their detachment with friends
and partners. Not the most romantic of signs, this aspect is worsened
by this terrible habit they seem to have of switching off all
emotion when the moment suits them - be it temporarily or permanent.
Astrology Star Sign - PISCES
Water sign, mutable.
Putting other people first is perhaps the
key phrase for Pisces. Like Virgos, they want to help but Virgo
is the practical way - this is a self- sacrificing way, a sympathetic
and caring side to matters, using their considerable intuition.
It is the sign that bears the symbol of being 'soft' but can also,
especially in men, show a very tough side. Bullies are often Pisces
- it is as if they need to put on this front to disguise their
inherent 'soft' nature. And there is a duality within this sign
of opposing forces - so if they can't help someone they will go
against them. Generally though, they are very compassionate and
romantic souls.
Extremely sensitive, they need encouragement to
get on well, and would benefit from the company of an understanding
fire sign. They also tend to regularly change direction when pursuing
their goals, which more often than not leads to confusion and
loss. They are dreamy, sensitive, likeable people that share the
Aquarian faith in humanitarian belief.
