Today, many people are realizing that there is more to them than
just their physical bodies--that they are more than just machines
made of flesh and bone. That "more" has been called many
things--for example, chi, ki, life force, prana, subtle energy,
or just "energy."
Whatever you call it, our subtle energy has a huge impact on our
physical, mental, and emotional health--and anyone can learn to
work with this subtle energy to support their wellness.
The subtle energy of our body has a structure, and chakras are
a part of that structure. They play an important role in the health
of your energy systems, including your physical body.
Read on to learn a way to clear and balance your chakras. Done
regularly, it will help support wellness in all areas of your being.
What Are Chakras?
Chakras are energy centers in your "subtle anatomy." They
are conceived of as whirling, wheel-like vortices through which
universal or cosmic energy flows into and out of a person.
They are located along the central channel of the body, running
up the center of the body/energy field from the base of the spine
to the top of the head.
There are seven major chakras, as well as many minor ones. Each
major chakra corresponds to specific glands, organs, and facets
of your being.
When the flow of the energy into or out of a chakra is disturbed--for
example, when the flow of energy is blocked or unbalanced--problems
can result in a person’s physical health, emotions, mind,
or life.
Many forms of energy healing include chakra healing. You can work
with your own chakras to clear, balance, and energize them. A chakra
meditation such as the one below can be particularly useful for
the home practitioner.
Chakra Wellness Meditation
Sit comfortably, upright, feet on the floor, arms and hands relaxed.
Take a few minutes to breathe deeply and slowly--all the way into
the lower third of your lungs, so that your belly rises as you inhale
and falls as you exhale. Allow your breathing to become slower and
more regular.
* Direct your awareness to your 1st or root, chakra, located at
the base of your spine. Visualize a wheel, spinning clockwise. In
your mind's eye, see it as a pure red color. Breathe in red, breathe
out red. Stay focused on the 1st chakra for a minute or so.
* Direct your attention to your 2nd, or sacral, chakra, positioned
in the middle of your lower abdomen, between your naval and pubic
bone. Visualize it as a wheel of a pure, clean orange color, spinning
clockwise. Breathe in orange, breathe out orange. Stay focused on
the 2nd chakra for a minute or so.
* Direct your attention to your 3rd, or solar plexus, chakra. It
is located in the middle of your upper abdomen, between your naval
and sternum. See it as a wheel of a pure, clean yellow color, spinning
clockwise. Breathe in yellow, breathe out yellow. Stay focused on
the 3rd chakra for a minute or so.
* Direct your awareness to your 4th, or heart, chakra, found in
the center of your body at the heart level. Visualize it as a wheel
of a pure, clean green color, spinning clockwise. Breathe in green,
breathe out green. Stay focused on the 4th chakra for a minute or
so.
* Direct your attention to your 5th, or throat, chakra, positioned
at the base of your throat. Visualize it as a wheel of a pure, clean
sky-blue color, spinning clockwise. Breathe in blue, breathe out
blue. Stay focused on the 5th chakra for a minute or so.
* Direct your attention to your 6th, or brow, chakra--also called
the Third Eye. It is found at the center of your forehead, between
and slightly above your eyebrows. See it as a wheel of a pure, clean
indigo color, spinning clockwise. Breathe in indigo, breathe out
indigo. Stay focused on the 6th chakra for a minute or so.
* Finally, direct your awareness to your 7th, or crown, chakra,
located at the top of your head. Visualize it as a wheel of pure,
clean violet (or white) color, spinning clockwise. Breathe in violet
(or white), breathe out violet (or white). Stay focused on the 7th
chakra for a minute or so.
Now relax and observe how you feel. Take a few moments, continuing
to breathe in a slow, deep, relaxed way, just staying present to
your body.
When you feel ready to end your meditation, open your eyes and
slowly return your awareness to the present time and place.
You can do this meditation daily if you wish.
Here's to the perfect, radiant health which is always yours.
